Evan Rachel Wood accuses Marilyn Manson of anti-Semitic abuse during relationship

Evan Rachel Wood has alleged that Marilyn Manson made anti-Semitic comments and actions towards her during their relationship.

Wood made the accusations in a series of Instagram stories shared yesterday (5 February). 

She wrote: “I was called a ‘jew’ in a derogatory manner. He would draw swastikas over my bedside table when he was mad at me.”

The actor added that for the duration of their relationship between 2007 and 2010, she “heard the ‘n’ word over and over”. 

“Everyone around him was expected to laugh and join in,” she said. “If you did not or (god forbid) called him out, you were singled out and abused more.”

Wood continued: “My mother is Jewish and I was raised with the religion. Because she was converted and wasn’t of Jewish descent [Manson] would say things like ‘that’s better’ because I wasn’t ‘blood Jewish’.” 

The 33-year-old also posted photographs of Manson’s arms, on which she had circled certain tattoos. Wood compared one of the tattoos – a skull and crossbones design – to the neo-Nazi symbol “totenkopf”, which was used as an emblem for an original branch of the SS. 

Wood also drew attention to the “M-Swastika” tattoo on the singer’s chest. She stated that Manson did not have these tattoos when they first began dating.

The Westworld star also shared an article that pointed out physical similarities between Wood and the actor who starred in Manson’s music video for his 2009 song “Running to the Edge of the World”.

The disturbing video – which was released one year before Manson proposed to Wood – sees the musician physically assault a female actor in her underwear who is then shown to be bloodied and apparently dead in a bathtub. 

The Independent has reached out to a representative of Manson’s for comment. 

Manson’s team has previously defended a quote from a 2009 interview the musician had done, in which he said of Wood: “I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.”

His representatives claimed that his words were “obviously a theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account”.

Wood’s latest comments come after she had named Manson as her alleged abuser earlier this week. In an Instagram post, she wrote: “The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson.

“He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission.”

After the Thirteen star shared her post, more women came forward with allegations of their own.

Manson has denied the accusations in an Instagram post, which reads: “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

In light of the allegations, Manson has been dropped by his record label and by the talent agency CAA. Manson's long-time manager Tony Ciulla has also reportedly cut ties with the musician. The 52-year-old has been axed from the TV shows American Gods and Creepshow.
