Product Description

The ML3 Pro Traditional has proven to be a popular take on the classic T-style guitar. The latest addition to the ML3 roster is a unique one for Chapman; their first semi-hollow guitar! Punchy but responsive classic tones courtesy of the ML3 traditional formula, but with an unmistakably semi-hollow quality - winner.

Body Construction

The most notable feature of this guitar is, of course, its semi-hollow construction. This body type, with its single f-hole, gives the guitar extra warmth, lower-midrange emphasis, and resonance. Semi-hollow guitars are often associated with bluesy styles, and this guitar is great for that but it can also handle higher gain styles and will add a different sound to your playing.

The back is made from mahogany which is known for its warmth and lower-end response while the top is flame maple for some added brightness. A distinguishing feature of this ML3 (aside from the f-hole) is the roasted maple neck and fingerboard. Roasted maple is more stable than regular maple, and with its rolled edges and satin finish it makes for a comfortable playing experience. The neck also has glow-in-the-dark side dot fret markers so you won't lose your place when playing on stage in low-light.

The guitar is finished in a luxurious Vintage Honey Burst that allows the Maple top to work its magic. To complete the look, Chapman have designed a more modern take on the f-hole too.

Hardware and Electronics

One of the standout features of this model is the dual P90 configuration. P90s combine the best of both worlds; a touch of single-coil twang and dynamics, but with a higher, more rounded output that really lets the tonewood come into its own.

A 3-way pickup selector gives you just enough tonal legroom to get the most out of the P90s. It's a classic T-style setup but with just a little more on tap - you'll be amazed at the richness of the neck position sound.

The ML3 Pro Traditional semi-hollow features a dual-action truss rod, TUSQ nut, hardtail bridge with brass saddles, and Hipshot Grip-Lock locking tuners for rock-solid tuning stability. Chapman have also taken steps to ensure your guitar is safe and sound; strap-locks and a Chapman Pro hard case come included in the package.

Superb guitar for the money. Nearly as well screwed together as my Music Man, which cost me £1000 more second-hand. Neck is on the chunky slide, but super comfy - and the satin finish is slick and smooth. Fretwork is outstanding and I think I have bought my last guitar without stainless steel frets, bends are butter-smooth. P90s sound fab and are not too noisy - these pickups plus the Light Speed overdrive are a match made in Heaven. I love semi’s and you can really feel this one breathe - it even sounds pretty ok unplugged late at night when ‘er indoors and the kids are in bed. Only niggle is that the action was set a little high, so if you aren’t comfortable tweaking your guitars yourself you may need to budget for a pro setup. And I don’t think I will ever be in love with that reverse headstock... 😈

OMG What can I say, this is just the most wonderful piece of kit I have bought, and that includes my 1991 Gibson Les Paul DC! The neck radius I wasn't sure I'd like, being much flatter than my other guitars. But it's wonderfully easy to play. The setup out of the box is great, low action, no high or buzzing frets. The machine heads are top quality. And those P90s are a pure joy, sweet cleans and add a blues driver and they scream the place down. Rob may be getting a raw deal at the moment in some quarters, but this guitar is absolutely wonderful.

I love the sound and the looks of this guitar. I can't comment on durability as i've only owned it for a couple of weeks, but it seems to be really well made.

I’ve never played a more comfortable neck in my life. The profile and thickness are absolutely perfect, not going too far one way or the other. The baked maple neck contributes to a noticeable low end while the semi hollow aspect gives it a high end squeal, so it’s finally balanced. It became my number one as soon as I held it.

It's a beautiful guitar which plays excellent. Slightly heavier than I expected, but still quite light. The only minor drawback is stock strings. I don't know if they are D'Addario or by some other brand. They were just not very good. But honestly, who plays stock strings longer than first 15-20 minutes? ;)

Mr Christopher Wright12th Aug 2019

Everyone should have one.

Mr Brian Maude27th Apr 2019

I own a couple of guitars, but was looking for a new semi hollow. I tried quite a few top makes which I wasn't impressed with. Then I saw a few revues of the chapman ml3 pro traditional. I disided to try one out . Never tried p90 pickups before, brilliant. The speck and build quality out shine other guitars that were more expensive. Many thank chapmam guitars , and Andertons's for your service 👍

With such a quality finish and hardware, I don’t think you could get any more for your money than a Chapman. Play it, love it. Thank you!
