ATTORNEYS I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH WEIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRESS-WEIGHT TAPE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADoLPH VEIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved DresslVeight Tape, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
The invention relates to wearing apparel, such as skirts, draperies and the like, and its object is to provide a new and improved dress weight tape arranged to permit its convenient attachment to the garment and to provide weights of uniform size and regularity distributed along the tape.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of an open mesh fabric, and weights cast on the said fabric in such a manner that the threads of the fabric are embedded in the weights to fasten the weights in position on the fabric.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a side elevation of the dress weight tape as applied to the bottom hem of a skirt, part of the latter being shown broken out; Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the dress weight tape; Fig. 3 is an edge view of the same; and Fig. 4: is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 4.& of Fig. 2.
The dress weight tape consists essentially of an open mesh fabric A and weights B cast by suitable molds on the said fabric A in such a manner that the weights B are Specification of Letters Patent.

spaced desired distances apart, and each weight projects on both faces of the fabric A and covers a plurality of meshes, as indicated in Fig. 2, the weight material extending through such meshes and embedding the threads of the fabric forming the meshes. By the arrangement described, the weight material, such as lead, when cast on the fabric A while in a molten state, readily passes through the meshes and wholly or partly fills the same, and embeds the threads forming the meshes so that the weights are firmly attached to the fabric A.
It is understood that the dress weight tape produced in the manner described, can be readily cut to a desired length for use in the hem C of the skirt 0 or other garment, as indicated in Fig. 1, so as to hold the skirt down, with a view to insure the proper hang of the skirt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
As a new article of manufacture, a dress weight tape, consisting of a strip of open mesh fabric, and spaced weights on the fabric and each having both the warp and weft threads of the fabric embedded therein, the weights being of less diameter than the width of the strip and arranged at the center of width of said strip.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADOLPH WEIN.
Witnesses:
